'Arthur must go!': Zwane says Kaizer Chiefs fans 'within their rights' to call for the sack

"Arthur must go! Arthur must go! Arthur must go!" were the chants echoing through the stands at the Peter Mokaba Stadium after Kaizer Chiefs' 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows on Sunday.

It was head coach Arthur Zwane's eighth DStv Premiership loss in what has been a roller-coaster first season in charge of the mighty Amakhosi.

The Soweto giants have been hitting well below expectations of a big club in Africa's richest league, with a Premiership record of eight wins, four draws and eight defeats.

With ten league games remaining, Chiefs find themselves in fifth position, hunting for a runners-up spot to qualify for next season's CAF Champions League, as it is widely expected that Mamelodi Sundowns will win a record sixth consecutive Premiership title.

But those dreams are slowly fading, and Chiefs fans are letting their voices be heard. They are becoming hard to ignore, even for Zwane.

"Look, it's within their rights," Zwane said after being cornered to give his thoughts about some Chiefs fans chanting for him to be fired from a job he signed a three-year deal for in May last year.

"I mean, they are disappointed. They believe we should have won this game.

"I also believe we should have wrapped it up first half. We let ourselves down, and I understand their frustration. We had a number of chances.

"Today is one game for me [that I think] we should have scored at least six from the first half, and you look at the second half.

"We ended up conceding three goals unnecessarily. But it is one of those things where you have a bad day at the office."
