Chelsea have 'made enquiry' for £130k-a-week 'fighter' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have ‘made an enquiry’ for Wilfried Zaha and Crystal Palace have refused to rule out the possibility of a late move to Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The west Londoners registered their second win of the season when they overcame Leicester City on Saturday, but head coach Thomas Tuchel could freshen up his squad ahead of Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

According to MailOnline, Chelsea are weighing up whether to make a move for Zaha during the closing stages of the summer window.

The report suggests the Blues are long-term suitors of the 24-cap Ivory Coast international and questioned Palace over the possibility of a switch last summer as well as a matter of months ago.

Zaha has entered the final 12 months of his Selhurst Park contract, which is worth £130,000-per-week, leading to doubts over where his long-term future lies.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League side showing an interest as transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the winger’s situation, although a switch to Mikel Arteta’s side is not in the pipeline at this stage.

It emerged last month that Roma have been considering a move for Zaha as well, with the Serie A giants’ boss Jose Mourinho and the hierarchy being admirers.

Phillips understands that Chelsea have upped the ante in their pursuit of Zaha and launched an enquiry.

The journalist believes that Tuchel will have been given a reason to feel optimistic of getting the deal over the line thanks to Palace’s response.

He is aware that Chelsea’s London rivals did not tell the Blues that the 29-year-old is not for sale, meaning a switch to Stamford Bridge may be on the cards.
