Chelsea: £40m star 'has to respond' after footage emerges at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea star Conor Gallagher ‘has to respond’ after head coach Thomas Tuchel showed his frustrations towards the central midfielder at Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Gallagher is back in west London, having enjoyed a successful loan spell with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace last season, but he was heavily linked with a departure during the transfer window.
Having missed Chelsea’s defeat to Southampton last week through suspension, Gallagher was restored to the starting line-up for the 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday.
However, eye-opening footage has emerged of Tuchel being left frustrated by the 22-year-old failing to make a forward pass during the first half of the Premier League encounter.
Although Gallagher has been afforded 157 minutes of top flight action since the season got underway, he has been unable to contribute any goals or assists.
The midfielder has already felt the wrath of Tuchel in recent weeks, with the German admitting Gallagher was ‘responsible’ for a ‘huge mistake’ as he was sent off inside the opening half an hour of Chelsea’s win over Leicester City last month.
Gallagher responded to his dismissal by apologising to his team-mates, boss and the west London giants’ fans via social media and taking ‘full responsibility for the rash decision’.
Jones believes Gallagher cannot be unhappy with the amount of opportunities Tuchel is giving him to shine.
The journalist feels the four-cap England international needs to respond to the recent criticism he has received from the Chelsea boss by showing he is capable of being a key man for the Blues.
