Chelsea conduct Ange Postecoglou 'due diligence' as Celtic boss gets next manager thorough look from Boehly

Chelsea have reportedly undergone "extensive due diligence" on Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as they whittle down their managerial shortlist to three names.

The Stamford Bridge side are on the hunt for their next permanent manager with Frank Lampard holding the fort amid a search for Graham Potter's successor. It's widely reported Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have both decided against it with former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino the frontrunner.

Blues owner Todd Boehly is assessing the field and Burnley's Vincent Kompany, fresh off leading the Clarets back to the Premier League, is widely believed to be another name under consideration. The Telegraph say that duo are on the final three-name shortlist alongside an "unnamed candidate." Lampard, yet to win a game in his second spell, isn't thought to be in with a serious chance of landing the job permanently with his impact not what the club had planned when he was handed the reins temporarily.

The same Telegraph report doesn't speculate over who the mystery candidate could be although it does point out they have done "extensive due diligence" on Feyenoord’s Arne Slot and Hoops boss Postecoglou. The Australian, on track for a domestic Treble at Celtic this season, was ranked as an outsider in reports on Saturday but it seems knock-backs from Nagelsmann and Enrique have pushed him up the pecking order.

It comes after skipper Callum McGregor urged the boss to stay at the club and help deliver more silverware next season, with the Viaplay Cup in the bag and the Premiership, at the very least, set to follow. McGregor said: "He’s been fantastic here, he’s had a really good tenure and we want to keep him. His work is outstanding and he’s a good person as well.
