Chatham Town Women’s players Simone Eligon, Jasmine Auguste and Otesha Charles on international duty as Keith Boanas’ side host Luton Town on Sunday – Chats drawn to play Sutton United in Women’s FA Cup third round
Three of Chatham Town Women’s cup heroes from last weekend will be on international duty when the team return to home league action this Sunday.
Goalkeeper Simone Eligon is among the trio to have flown out to play for their national sides as Chatham prepare to face Luton Town at the Bauvill Stadium. She saved two penalties in the shoout-out win over higher-league Exeter City in last weekend’s FA Cup second round match.
Jasmine Auguste and Otesha Charles were also part of the side which returned from Exeter victorious. The match finished 2-2, with Keith Boanas’ side twice coming from behind, both of their goals scored by Ellie Jeffkins.
Boanas’ side start the weekend sitting fifth in the Division 1 South East table, 11 points behind second-placed Norwich and a point further back from leaders Fulham, with a game in hand.
Boanas said: “We could have looked at postponing the game this Sunday, with three players missing, but the squad is strong enough in depth.
“We signed goalkeeper Abby Baravik earlier in the season. She’s a good keeper, and I trust and respect her. We’ve also got lots of competition in midfield and the forward areas.”
Eligon is playing for Trinidad & Tobago, Auguste is representing Saint Lucia and Charles will feature for Guyana as the respective nations compete in CONCACAF Women’s Championship qualifiers.
Chatham were beaten by Norwich 3-2 last time out in the league, at home, and will hope to pick up a win against Luton Town this weekend to keep pressure on the leading sides.
It was an enjoyable trip to Devon for the team, staying overnight before taking on Exeter.
Chatham had also beaten AFC Wimbledon on penalties away in the previous round.
