Chatham Town Women host Aylesford Ladies in the Kent Cup quarter-final at the Bauvill Stadium –Back in action after a historic Women’s FA Cup win over York City
“This is a moment in time for women’s football at Chatham” and the chairman wants as many people as possible to be part of it.
Chatham reached the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, doing it in front of a record-breaking crowd of 1,671 — the biggest attendance for a women’s game in Kent.
Fourth-tier Chatham will play WSL 2 side Birmingham City away later this month, while they are also chasing silverware in the county, facing Aylesford Ladies tonight in a Kent Cup quarter-final tie.
Chats chairman Kevin Hake says their achievements on the national stage is about far more than a famous cup run and believes the club’s women are building something special.
Hake said: “Sunday was a truly history-making day for the club.
“Not only have we become the first ever fourth-tier team to reach the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup, but we did it in front of 1,671 supporters — the highest ever attendance for a women’s game in Kent.
“That’s something that everyone at Chatham Town is incredibly proud of.”
Keith Boanas’ side beat York City 3-0 on Sunday at Chatham’s Bauvill Stadium.
Hake said: “Keith, his players, staff, and volunteers have created something special and this run is about more than just results — it’s helping to inspire the next generation and build a proper legacy for women’s football in this county.”
Tonight, Chatham take on an Aylesford side who play in the London & South East Regional Premier Division.
Chatham will include returning player Niamh Jestin in their squad, as changes are made from the weekend team. The new signing previously made 60 appearances for the club during a three-year spell.
Hake hopes to see some of those fans from the weekend back supporting the women’s team.
