Chatham Town take on Mark Hughes’ Carlisle United at the Bauvill Stadium in the FA Trophy fourth round on Saturday
Chatham Town’s manager believes his team have what it takes to give National League leaders Carlisle United a run for their money on Saturday.
Carlisle were relegated from the Football League last season, but are determined to return at the first attempt under manager Mark Hughes, and head into the FA Trophy match at Chatham sitting top of the table.
It’s a daunting test for Chatham, playing three divisions lower, but it’s the kind of match that manager Kevin Hake is buzzing for.
“It will be another big afternoon at the Bauvill,” he said.
“After last weekend’s 2–1 win away at Folkestone, the lads are back home and ready to give everything again in front of our supporters.
“This is exactly what non-league football is about — a Saturday afternoon cup tie, good opposition, and a chance to come together as a club and town.”
Chatham ended Folkestone’s 12-match winning streak in the Isthmian Premier Division last weekend, closing the gap slightly on their Kent promotion rivals.
Folkestone have played two more games than Chatham, and are 14 points ahead at the top of the table.
League issues are put aside on Saturday, however, as Chatham expect what could be a capacity crowd at the Bauvill Stadium for the fourth-round tie.
Chatham have never been this far in the competition before.
A huge game coming up for @ChathamTownFC and their high-flying opponents have been warned what to expect
