Charlton Athletic player close to joining Championship club

According to London News Online, Kirk is set to join Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season, with the deal also including an option to complete a permanent transfer in the Summer.

The winger has failed to settle into Charlton since joining the side in the last transfer window, making only five appearances in League One for the side.

Kirk joined last Summer for a fee of £500,000 but is now already set to leave the club for a move to the Championship.

The 24-year old will be keen to test himself in the second division, with Kirk unable to break into Johnnie Jackson’s side.

There were suggestions that Charlton would only be willing to let the transfer happen if they could secure the signature of Marcus Browne from Middlesbrough. However, the Browne signing has yet to be sealed so that has ultimately not been the case.

Browne has missed the last year of action due to sustaining ACL damage.

Kirk will be moving to the side 13th in the Championship. Neil Critchley’s men won their last game, coming out 1-0 victors over Millwall to leapfrog them in the table.

Meanwhile, Charlton are 14th in League One.

It is unusual to see a player struggle to make it into a League One side then get a move up to a Championship club.

However, Critchley must be a fan of the player to seal this deal for the side.

Kirk did have an impressive campaign last season with Crewe Alexandra, scoring six and earning eight assists for the side who finished 12th in League One.

It will be a big test to see if he can make the step up to the second tier, however it is unlikely he will jump straight into the Blackpool team.
