Jason Pearce sends message to Charlton fans following Bolton defeat

Charlton Athletic’s three match winning streak in League One was snapped on Tuesday night by in-form Bolton Wanderers, who snatched all three points late in the game at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The Trotters took the lead after just 10 minutes thanks to January acquisition Dion Charles, but with less than 15 minutes to go in the match an equaliser came from Chuks Aneke.

It looked like the Addicks may head back to the capital with a point in the bag, but on 83 minutes the winning goal was flicked in by the head of Will Aimson to condemn Johnnie Jackson’s side to a loss.

Under Jackson’s caretaker stewardship between October and December,  Charlton lost just once in nine League One matches but that loss to the Trotters was the fourth since the ex-midfielder’s appointment on a permanent basis was confirmed.

One player who came out to issue a message to the fans following their latest setback was skipper Jason Pearce, who praised the supporters that travelled to watch a ‘battling’ performance from the Addicks.

The Verdict

Last night was a definite setback for Charlton’s chances of a top six finish in League One.

Some great form under Jackson’s management catapulted them up the table and a win against Bolton would have put them 11 points off Oxford United in sixth with a game in hand.

But a 14-point gap looks too big now to overcome you feel and there’s many teams above them as well also vying for the same end goal.

This could very well be a building block season to go again in 2022-23 – unless they don’t drop any points between now and the end of the season and in that case it would be the mother of all turn-arounds to get into the play-offs.
