Celtic transfer news latest as Tiago Araujo shows his 'extreme' side and two strikers get Parkhead snub

He's one the Hoops are believed to have on their radar - and Brendan Rodgers has been shown how to get the best out of Tiago Araujo if he joins Celtic.

The Benfica academy product is currently in Liga Nos with Estoril and has been linked with a seven-figure switch to Parkhead this January. Boss Rodgers has called for added quality in January as his side endure a sticky patch of performances - compounded by a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock on Sunday - and Araujo could be one he looks to.

During Estoril's 4-0 romp over Chaves on Sunday, the Hoops boss was pointed to a tactic implemented to get the best out of Araujo on the left-flank, that included three strong central defenders freeing him up to attack at will. A Bola wrote: "The trio of central defenders, made up of Raúl Parra, Pedro Álvaro and Bernardo Vital, were so competent in nullifying almost all the offensive actions of the opposing forwards that it allowed the two wingers, Rodrigo Gomes and Tiago Araújo, to be (much) more extreme than than lateral ones."

Elsewhere, former Hoops goalkeeper Pat Bonner has cast doubt over whether Aberdeen's Bojan Miovski or Hearts' Lawrence Shankland could fill Rodgers' striker void. Oh and Kyogo are bound for the Asian Cup, with the Dons hitman linked and Shankland a name pundits are touting for the champions. But speaking to the BBC, Bonner isn't so sure.

He said: "I don’t want to be getting accused of taking players away from other clubs. Listen these players have proved in this league that they can score goals. Now, the question is, of course, if they don’t play week in week out will that take away from their game? Will they be happy to sit on the bench and come on?"
