Celtic transfer news latest as Scott McKenna 'enquiry' made with Nottingham Forest January exit on the cards

Scott McKenna could be set for a stunning return to Scotland with Celtic said to be 'one of a number of clubs' interested in the Scotland defender.

The former Aberdeen stopper made the move south of the border with Nottingham Forest in 2020 and helped the club reach the English Premier League. But McKenna is currently out of favour at the City Ground with just five appearances to his name this season with his last outing in the league coming in a 1-1 draw with Burnley back in September.

PLZ Soccer reports 'tentative enquires' have been made as Brendan Rodgers looks to add to his centre-back options. Nat Phillips' short-term loan from Liverpool is set to expire while Gustaf Lagerbielke has been linked with a move away during the transfer window. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh have struggled with knocks in recent times with Liam Scales proving the mainstay at the back with Maik Nawrocki picking up rare minutes from the bench against Rangers at the weekend.

The January transfer window opens for business in less than 12 hours' time with the Scottish champions likely to add in a number of key positions. The league leaders have already lost Oh and Yang to South Korea's squad for the Asian Cup and are likely to be without Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and possibly Reo Hatate if the trio land spots in the Japan squad.

That could force Rodgers' hand in the market for attacking options with Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby one name in the frame although the club are insisting that they will need to be 'blown away' by any offer to do business. Bojan Miovski of Aberdeen is another name previously linked with a switch to the Scottish champions.

A number of fringe men could also head for the exit door on permanent or
