Celtic transfer news bulletin as Brendan Rodgers offered missing midfield puzzle piece and Kvistgaarden gets hard sell

There's plenty of transfer work to be done at Celtic, and fans want it done quickly after the champions lost successive league games for the first time in a decade.

Brendan Rodgers keeps saying he needs to add quality. However, a failure to do just that in the summer window means hopes aren't exactly high for the notoriously more difficult winter window. A Champions League exit won't have boosted the Hoops' chances of attracting marquee signings, and it it may have to be players who are out of favour elsewhere and in need of game time, or plucking gems from lesser known clubs.

There's not been much evidence of the latter since Ange Postecoglou's departure, although Luis Palma has been the pick of the bunch in terms of impact from the new arrivals this season. Rodgers will be judged on his next window and he needs to at least improve his team enough to keep Rangers' title challenge at bay.

In terms of what they need, Neil Lennon reckons there's a glaring hole in midfield. The former Parkhead boss has urged Rodgers to go and get a a proper No 6 with physical presence, which would in turn get more from Callum McGregor. When asked what he thinks Celtic need in January, he replied: “A number six and a number nine. Let McGregor play further forward. The game on Wednesday, when Iwata started and Callum was playing the number eight role. They started off the game really well. They gave Callum that licence to dictate the game further up the pitch. I don’t think he is a great number six. He is far better playing that 6/8 role. Going in and scoring goals. For me, a physical presence in midfield is a must.”
