"No Bibby, no party": Perth boxer Luke Bibby shares special feeling of winning first pro fight

Luke Bibby revelled in the joys of his name being chanted loud and proud after recording a convincing victory in his first fight as a professional.

The Perth boxer defeated Englishman Mark Butler 60-54 on points in front of a vocal - and delighted - crowd at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow on Friday night.

Bibby (23), who trains under the guidance of renowned coach Billy Nelson, produced a composed and dominant performance.

“Before the fight I was just enjoying the moment and wanted to take it all in. You only get one debut so I wanted to make the most of it.”

Former Perth Academy pupil Bibby savoured the celebrations with friends, family and everyone who had travelled to support him.

He told the Perthshire Advertiser: “I’d never had that many people come and watch me.

“The famous chant was ‘no Bibby, no party’. In between the rounds, everyone was shouting it.”

On the scenes after the win, he added: “I was getting thrown about the crowd for about 25 minutes.

“They had to rush me out the arena so they could get the next fight started. It was unbelievable and I’ve never had anything like it.

“It went exactly how I wanted it to go and the support was unbelievable. Everyone was loving it and I think they had a great night.

“That is what I wanted - everyone to enjoy the show and to keep coming back and supporting me.”

Bibby’s phone was going crazy before the bout and afterwards. One of the well-wishers in the build-up was St Johnstone captain Liam Gordon.

“I will be getting back to every single person,” Bibby
