Celtic pull off transfer swoop as Aussie youngster 'QUITS' boyhood club to jump at Hoops chance

Celtic have completed the signing of Australian youngster Liam Bonetig - after he decided to down tools and leave his club for a shot in the Scottish Premiership.

The 18-year-old has joined the club's B Team on a three-year-contract, learning from former Hoops heroes Stephen McManus and Darren O'Dea, with the pathway to a first-team opening under Brendan Rodgers on the cards.. He'll be eligible for fixtures in the Lowland League and the UEFA Youth League, cutting his teeth against the best youth prospects on the continent as Celtic aim to get out of the group stage after failing to do so last season.

But, despite starting out at hometown and A-League side Western Sydney Warriors, reports claims that the youngster downed tools to join the Hoops in a bid to make his name at Celtic Park. The young defender took matters into his own hands by deciding to leave everything behind and upon his move says he couldn't quite describe the feeling of moving to Celtic.

He told the club's official website: "It’s an amazing feeling to have signed.

"It’s such a huge club and I couldn’t believe it when Celtic were interested. So I am just glad to get it done. I couldn’t really describe what it felt like when I first heard of Celtic’s interest. It’s some feeling. The boys told me it’s a great time to come to the club with some big games coming up. So playing and travelling to those is going to be some experience.

“Since I have been here, the coaches and players have been great to me. They have been really welcoming and made my time very easy at the moment. Now, I am just really excited to get going.”
