Celtic: Postecoglou 'willing to sell' £18k-a-week star at Parkhead

Celtic are open to selling striker Albian Ajeti, whose future remains in major doubt, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Switzerland international has just under two years remaining on his £18,000 per-week deal, but his lack of chances over the last 12 months could lead to his Parkhead exit.

Ajeti’s Celtic career initially got off to a flying start following his £5m move from West Ham in the summer of 2020, when he scored five goals in his opening six Scottish Premiership games.

But since enjoying that purple patch, Ajeti has struggled to find the net, with his overall record for the Hoops now at an underwhelming nine goals in 48 appearances.

A long-term hamstring injury sustained last season prevented him from having the chance of catching Ange Postecoglou’s eye, with his latest outing under the Australian’s guidance coming back in November.

As a result of his lack of form and ability to stay fit, Celtic want to sell him before the transfer deadline, although Joseph reckons that it’ll have to be a loan with an option to buy following his lack of minutes on the pitch.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Without him playing football for about three years, it’s hard for a club to come in and pay even £3m or £4m.

“So, perhaps a loan with an option to buy would be best, because a club can take him on loan and see what he’s like, see if he starts scoring goals, and then perhaps there’s a fee of £4m or £5m for Celtic to get their money back, but it’s up in the air about his future, but Celtic are very much willing to listen to offers for him.”

Celtic might have made the perfect start to their Scottish Premiership with victories against Aberdeen and Ross County, but Ajeti has endured more injury frustrations.
