Celtic now want 'remarkable' man to stay at Parkhead

Celtic are desperate to keep Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead but should not be surprised that he has been linked with a move to the Premier League, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Postecoglou was appointed as the Bhoys’ manager last year, but he has worked his way onto the radar of clubs south of the border.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are keen to tie Postecoglou down to an improved long-term deal as they look to keep him out of suitors’ clutches.

The report suggests the former Australia boss has gained the attention of Premier League clubs as well as elite teams overseas, so plans are in place to increase his Parkhead salary and insert a release clause into any new contract.

Leicester City could reportedly make a move for Postecoglou if ex-Celtic chief Brendan Rodgers is axed by the King Power Stadium hierarchy.

The pressure has ramped up on the Northern Irishman after the Foxes went into the international break without a Premier League win and bottom of the table.

Postecoglou was also in the running for the Brighton & Hove Albion job after Graham Potter left to take over at Chelsea earlier this month, but the Seagulls opted to appoint Roberto De Zerbi instead.

O’Rourke believes Postecoglou will continue to be linked with a move away from Celtic because of the success he has enjoyed in Glasgow.

But the journalist feels the Bhoys are keen for the 57-year-old to remain at Parkhead and build something special.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s inevitable that success does see you attracting interest from other clubs.

“Celtic are well aware of that over the years and what happens not just with players but managers as well. Some clubs will look to try and prise your best talent away.
