Celtic injury update as Luis Palma set to miss more matches while Callum McGregor return timelined
Celtic have suffered another injury blow with winger Luis Palma reportedly set for a spell on the sidelines.
The Honduras international played no part in Sunday's 4-2 win over Livingston at Celtic Park that booked Brendan Rodgers side's place in the last four of the Scottish Cup. The 24-year-old was an unused sub in the 2-0 loss to Hearts nine days ago, and last appeared off the bench in the 7-1 drubbing of Dundee on February 28. And according to the Scottish Sun, Palma is now a doubt for Saturday's Premiership clash at home to St Johnstone, with three points for the Hoops enough to see them return to the league summit ahead of Rangers' clash away to Dundee on Sunday.
Elsewhere in Glasgow's East End, the champions will also still be missing star centre back Cameron Carter-Vickers and skipper Callum McGregor. The latter has been struggling with an Achilles problem picked up in the Dundee thrashing, and the results of an initial scan were inconclusive.
Carter-Vickers played the full 90 minutes in last week's loss at Tynecastle but was then left out of the squad for Livi as a precaution. However, boss Rodgers has moved to provide an update on the status of both players, and hopes to have influential captain McGregor back after the forthcoming international break in just over a week's time.
Asked about the uncertainty surrounding McGregor's availability, he said: “It always is if you have your top players and your captain not available. Of course, there will be other players who can come in, but the level that he brings the game to is beyond what a lot of our players can do. Fingers crossed again we can get to the bottom of that and he’ll be available after the international break.”
