Lewis Ferguson transfer race explodes as Napoli join Juventus in £22m running for Scottish sensation

Italian champions Napoli have entered the race for Lewis Ferguson as they attempt to duel with Juventus for the Scottish sensation’s services.

Bologna captain Ferguson would serve as a replacement for Polish international Piotr Zielinksi who is jumping ship to Inter in the summer on a free transfer. The former Aberdeen star is top of the wish list for the Napoli chiefs after another excellent season. Ferguson, 24, has helped propel his side to fourth in Serie A. He is currently tied down until 2027 and it would take no less than £22million to pry him away from Thiago Motta’s side.

Napoli are set begin their transfer dealings as soon as the international break where Ferguson is sure to feature for the Scotland national team. However, they also need to decide whether to pull the trigger on Ivorian international Hamed Traoré who is currently on loan at Napoli from Bournemouth.

The Naples side also have their own stars out on loan with Gianluca Gaetano occupying the Cagliari midfield and Michael Folorunsho is what makes Verona’s midfield tick.

Ferguson would be a good fit for Napoli as his physical and technical abilities are just as good as one another. If you factor in his age, versatility and experience the Scotsman is a hot commodity and it would suit both parties. If Nigerian marksman, Victor Osimhen leaves in the summer, finances won’t be an issue and the summer window is crucial for Napoli. They don’t want to wait 33 years for another Scudetto. Ferguson would be a vital piece to the puzzle.
