Celtic goalkeeper didn't mind bumps and bruises in eventful Airdrie debut at Dunfermline
Celtic goalkeeper Josh Clarke came in on an emergency loan to try and help Airdrie kick-off life in the Championship with a win.
But he was left disappointed as a fellow Hoops loanee helped Dunfermline take the spoils on Saturday.
The 19-year-old was drafted in to cover the absence of Diamonds No.1 Josh Rae through a suspension carried over from last season and it proved to be an eventful SPFL debut for the teenager with a couple of bumps and bruises along the way.
Clarke cracked his head off the post in a failed attempt to keep out a header from Celtic loan kid Ewan Otoo that pulled the Pars level on the half hour mark, after Craig Watson had given the visitors the lead.
And he had a couple of other injury concerns in the second half before Paul Allan curled a fine strike past him in 66 minutes to win the game for the hosts, who had Rhys Breen sent off late on.
After seeing his Celtic team-mate score past him, Clarke said: "It's typical. Ottsy had one early on which I was pleased to save but for his goal he put a really good header past me.
"It was right in the corner and I got a whack to the head for my efforts to get to it.
"I played rugby growing up so I'm used to getting a few whacks and stuff. I think the doctor was more concerned than I was. I'm okay.
"I enjoyed it out there. I came in and met the boys on Friday for the first time for a training session and was thrown in at the deep end on Saturday, but I really enjoyed the experience and I can't thank the manager and everyone at Airdrie enough for working with me.
"I wish the team all the best for the future."
Clarke returns to the Celtic B side in the Lowland League and hopes he can kick on from his first taste of the Championship.
