Celtic cup clash will allow East Kilbride boss to ring the changes

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy admits he will ring the changes for tonight’s SPFL Trust Trophy first round clash away to Lowland League rivals Celtic B.

Kilby have had a hectic start to their league campaign with three games in a week and they also face East Stirlingshire this Saturday, so Kennedy says he will use the match to give others game time, with the league their main focus this season.

He said: “We will change things up for the Celtic game and give some boys who haven’t played a lot recently some game time.

“No disrespect to the competition, but it isn’t one of our priorities in terms of what we are trying to achieve this season.

“It will give us the opportunity to rest five or six of the boys for the East Stirling game on Saturday.”

Kilby dropped points for the first time last weekend when they drew 1-1 at Stirling University with 10 men.

And Kennedy believes his side will face another tough test when Shire come calling to K-Park.

He added: “I think East Stirling will make it difficult for us. They will probably sit in a bit and try to catch us on the break.

“I’ve not seen a lot of them but we had them scouted so I will get a full report on that.

“Apart from a couple of teams in the league who look like they are struggling a bit, I don’t think there will be any easy games.

”I think we’ll need to be at it week in, week out and that bit of quality we have will shine through.”

The clash with Celtic is a 7.45pm kick-off at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie, while Saturday’s game with East Stirlingshire will start at 3pm.
