Cambuslang Rangers boss content with point in opener as he looks to 'Rangers v Celtic' type battle this weekend

Boss Paul McColl is taking the positives from Cambuslang Rangers' opening day draw with Kilwinning Rangers on Saturday after a major summer rebuild.

The Somervell Park side lost a large chunk of last season's squad that was relegated from the West of Scotland Premier Division, with the likes of skipper Scott Anson and experienced defender Alan Reid among the key departures.

So McColl is content to take a point from their home clash with Kilwinning, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Camby were twice ahead through goals from new signings Lee Hadden and Nathan McConnell before their visitors pegged them back.

But McColl said:"We had a really good first half against a really decent team. I know they came down from the Premier like us, but they are a big budget side in our league and maybe one of the favourites to win it.

"They've still got the majority of their team from last season as well so I thought we did well against them.

"In the first half I thought we played really well and they were probably the better team in the second half, but I thought we defended well.

"I think a draw was a fair result and it was quite an entertaining game.

"We had a good crowd there and it was a good opening game for us.

"Not losing was the main thing.

"We've got a brand new team and we've not played many games, or had much training together. We were a wee bit behind because we had to bring so many new players in so, on that basis, it is a decent enough start for us.

"There's positive signs there.

"In the second half we got a wee bit tired and you could tell we probably aren't as fit as Kilwinning.

"But we were also missing six players through injuries, holidays and suspension.
