Airdrie v Ross County: We don't do boring, we'll give it a go, says Diamonds boss Rhys McCabe ahead of Viaplay Cup clash

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe insists his side won’t sit back against Ross County in their Viaplay Cup clash – because that would be BORING.

McCabe is well aware of the Diamonds’ giant-killing record in the competition, having defeated Premiership sides Motherwell, St Mirren and Dundee in this very competition in recent years, as they head into the last-16 tie at New Broomfield.

While he was down-playing some aspects of that, McCabe says Airdrie will definitely have a go at their Highland opponents, and admits their 2-1 win over Partick Thistle has given them a huge boost.

When reminded of Airdrie’s record of giant-killing, McCabe said: “So they keep telling me!

“I play football to win, for the enjoyment, and that has even been the case as a manager.

“Everything is about enjoying the game.

“I don’t see my team sitting off the game, absorbing pressure for 90 minutes – I think it’s boring, and it doesn’t suit my character.

“Everyone talks about it being more important to get the result, but I’m a big believer that if you focus on the performance, results will come.

“Every game we go into, regardless of whether it’s a cup competition or the league, we go in there to win.

“To get in the [quarter-final] hat would be a massive boost – of course it would.

“It would be massive for the club, big scope to get a big club and then another one in the next round helps generate some fans through the door, which will create revenue for the club.

“It would be great, and the full focus will be to go in there with a strong side and get the win.

“But we take it one game at a time. I know it sounds terrible, and you guys don’t want to hear that, but it’s about assessing everyone, making sure everyone recovers well, gets a good training week into
