Celtic breaking news as 'no explanation required' for dumped international duo and best winger named

South Korea have dumped Celtic stars Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun from their squad for their World Cup qualifiers this month.

Former Germany and USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann was bulleted after a poor Asian Cup tournament which ended in ignominy after a bizarre incident when Spurs star and captain Son Heung-min was injured trying to prevent some of the squad from playing table tennis. And interim boss Hwang Sun-hong, who is also South Korea's Olympic team manager, has decided to ring the changes and ignore the Hoops duo for their double-header with Thailand in Seoul and Bangkok.

Oh has yet to score for his country having won 11 caps and has very much been a bit-part player for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers this season. And Yang - who was controversially sent off in Celtic's defeat at Hearts last week - has failed to score either in any of his three games for his country.

Hwang instead handed a debut to 33-year-old local legend Joo Min-kyu who plays for homeland club Ulsan HD and the caretaker boss explained: "We need firepower. Joo has scored over 50 goals in the K League in the past few seasons. There is no other explanation required."

Meanwhile, Rodgers has lavished praise on Celtic lifer James Forrest and hailed the winger as the club's best wide man despite his advancing years and reducing role in the first team. The Irishman said: He's been a brilliant servant of the club. And of course, it's probably been difficult for him the last couple of years, not playing maybe as much as he wants.
