Celtic and the £11m transfer profit leaving Brendan Rodgers with January cash to burn after Jota and Starfelt sales

The transfer window is well and truly shut and attention now returns to domestic action for Celtic as they get set for the season's first Old Firm.

Despite sizeably cashing in on Jota as he made his Saudi Pro League move, Brendan Rodgers' side didn't go wild with htie recruitment, leaving some fans a bit miffed as to the squad's strength compared to the end of last season. Tying down Liel Abada to a new deal is a cracking bit of business and discussions are set for Reo Hatate to sign a new deal too potentially, but defensive issues have plagued the start of their season.

It's all about the bottom lines now in football and Celtic have been shrewd in this window with their net spend coming in with a profit for the Champions. The fees are just the reported numbers but if they're close to the real deal then the club have some cash to play with in the mid-season window should it be required.

When Celtic's incoming and outgoings are broken down it makes for fairly decent reading financially, but fans want to see the money spent — and spent well. A breakdown of the reported fees sees Celtic taking home £11.45m, or a couple of players at least in other words.

Celtic's incoming never saw a player come in for over £4.3m with Maik Nawrockie arriving for that fee and Luis Palma being the second most expensive at £3.5. The whole sum of Celtic's outlays totalled a reported £18m. When outgoings are considered there's one obvious fee, the £25m received for Jota is followed by Starfelt's £4.3m move, with the total figure recouped at around £29.5m when all outgoings are included.

Whether or not the plan is to bide their time until January and make a marquee purchase, which come at a premium in that window, is yet to be seen. Celtic fans
