Kasper Schmeichel emerges as Celtic transfer option in Brendan Rodgers reunion with free agent Nice exit nearing

Kasper Schmeichel could be set for a reunion with former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic with the goalkeeper set to leave Nice imminently.

The Denmark international was appointed Foxes captain by the Irishman as well as lifting the FA Cup during his time working under the current Parkhead boss at City. After leaving for the Ligue 1 side he spoke highly of the manager stating: "Brendan is one of the best managers I’ve ever seen up close so I only have good things to say about him." And the 36-year-old could look to reunite with the Celtic boss to add competition for Joe Hart as he looks set to leave France.

Get French Football Newsreport that Nice are attempting to offload Schmeichel before the closure of the transfer window after he lost his starting spot to Marcin Bulka - who joined from PSG this summer. Schmeichel has dropped out of the first-team picture having not made a matchday squad this term.

The report suggests the club are offload Schmeichel even if that means a free transfer. That could mean that the Premier League winner can be snapped up by suitors beyond the end of the month.

Rodgers has also been linked with another former Leicester star and bringing him to Parkhead. Ryan Bertrand has been offered to the Hoops and could provide cover at left-back.
