Brendan Rodgers admits 'frightening' Celtic wages reality in EPL comparison and the league where money makes stars 'wobble'
Brendan Rodgers admits there is a startling difference in the wages Celtic can offer players as opposed to wha his eyes were opened to in the Premier League.
The Irishman is back in Glasgow after time at Leicester City, who he controversially joined from the Premiership champions in 2019. Cash in England's top flight has gone up exponentially in recent seasons amid mega money TV deals and other revenue streams that leaves Celtic fighting uphill when competing with one of those 20 clubs for a target.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Rodgers admitted that having looked at some of the financial packages his current crop have, it doesn't hold a candle to the game down south: "It's night and day difference. I came into here, with the greatest respect, and see some of the wages the boys are on. I obviously know the levels down in England, it is frightening really."
Rodgers has also revisited the topic of Saudi Arabia's big-spending. Celtic sold Jota to AL Ittihad for £25m and the Irishman spoke to a club in the middle-east prior to joining Celtic, and reckons their plan for success is going well.
He added: “It’s definitely something that makes players wobble because of the money that's talked about and what it can do for players and the legacy it can create for their families for years down the line. What makes [Saudi Arabia] dangerous is not only the money, they have a plan. The plan is attracting top players and looking to get top managers out there."
