Carlos Corberan not getting carried away after Huddersfield Town's promotion statement at Fulham

Carlos Corberan was keen to remain coy on Huddersfield Town’s promotion hopes despite watching his side defeat Fulham away from home on Saturday.

The Terriers were able to extend their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions on their visit to West London, further strengthening their grip on a play-off place.

They now have a four-point cushion to seventh-placed Middlesbrough and will be desperate to hang onto fifth place, or higher, between now and the end of the season.

However, no team in the second tier has played more games than Huddersfield, a statistic Corberan was keen to make everyone aware of in his post-match press conference.

When asked whether the victory at Fulham had boosted their promotion credentials, the Spaniard replied: “For me, no, for two reasons.

“Firstly, because the table is not real, we have played more games than most teams, not all of them.

“Secondly, because our only target is to be the most competitive team that we can be. As soon as we start to think about things that we cannot control, we are wasting time and energy.

“We are going to need a lot of energy to be a competitive team.”

Corberan was clearly keeping his cards close to his chest as he will know, more than anyone, just how significant a result like that is away from home against the league leaders.

Like the supporters who watched the match on Saturday, he was really impressed by what he saw from his players as they got the better of the division’s strongest team.

“We know that it’s always a big challenge when you play the best teams and it’s going to be demanding,” he added.

“When you play teams like Bournemouth or Fulham, you know that you have to attack perfectly and defend perfectly too.
