Carlos Corberan 'knows all about Leeds' amid links to replacing Marcelo Bielsa

Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan could be a ‘good fit’ to replace Marcelo Bielsa in the Leeds United hot seat as he ‘knows all about’ the Elland Road outfit, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Bielsa’s contract is set to expire in the summer and the Argentinian has yet to tell the Whites hierarchy whether he is willing to extend his stay in Yorkshire, but The Athletic’s Phil Hay has previously revealed he has a ‘hunch’ that his reign will end at the season’s climax.

According to The Telegraph, Huddersfield boss Corberan is among three candidates to have been identified as potential successors to Bielsa.

The report suggests former RB Leipzig chief Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde – who previously managed Spanish giants Barcelona – are also in the running if Leeds are forced into making a change in the dugout, but sporting director Victor Orta is understood not to have made any advances so far.

Prior to taking charge of Championship side Huddersfield in the summer of 2020, Corberan had worked as Bielsa’s right-hand man at Elland Road.

The 38-year-old has impressed members of the Leeds hierarchy since moving onto their Yorkshire rivals and, as a result, has worked his way onto the club’s radar.

Should the Whites make a move for the Spaniard, it is likely that they would have to pay a compensation fee as Corberan’s Huddersfield contract does not expire until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
