Carl Starfelt has Celtic transfer exit option as Brendan Rodgers admits defender in 'position' to leave Parkhead

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that defender Carl Starfelt could be set to leave the club.

Reports have been swirling that Spartak Moscow have been credited with an interest in the defender, but Record Sport understands strong suitors are emerging from south of the border and other European countries. With almost a month left in the transfer window, interest could turn into a more-concrete proposal with Starfelt being closely eyed.

The stopper cost Celtic £4million when signing from Rubin Kazan in 2021 and has two years left to run on his contract having formed an impressive partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers over the last two years. Maik Nawrocki was handed a start alongside the American in the Premiership opener and before kick-off Rodgers conceded an exit was on the cards.

Rodgers told BBC Sportsound: "Carl is in a position where he may be leaving the club. He has been fantastic and really respectful, but he is in a position where we may lose him. This is a chance for Maik (Nawrocki) to build a partnership with Cam (Carter-Vickers)."
