Cameron Pring sparks Rangers transfer debate as ex England ace slaps price tag on Bristol City star

Former England star Carlton Palmer rates Rangers-linked Cameron Pring at £2 million-plus - and insists his departure would be a “huge blow” to Bristol City.

Palmer raved about the 25-year-old’s credentials after the Light Blues were credited with an interest in him at the weekend. Pring still has two years left on his Robins contract and is highly rated at Ashton Gate.

Pring came through the ranks at Bristol City but has had loan spells at eight lower league clubs. The left back position at Rangers is one where there has been plenty of speculation during this transfer window with Ridvan Yilmaz linked with an Ibrox exit - the latest reports in Turkey say Galatasaray are insistent on signing him - while Borna Barisic’s contract is up at the end of the season and there has been talk of him also leaving, with Dinamo Zagreb and Leeds United both linked.

Former Hibs man Josh Doig was on the Rangers radar but the Hellas Verona man looks to be out of their reach. He had been on the brink of a move to Marseille but Sassuolo are looking to hijack that. Pring’s name has now been touted and Palmer told Football League World: “Glasgow Rangers are reported to want Bristol City’s left-back, Cameron Pring, as a replacement for Ridvan Yilmaz.

“The 25-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, so Bristol City are in the driving seat. It would be a huge blow to Bristol City and their manager Liam Manning in their hopes to finish in the top six. Bristol City would receive a fee in excess of £2million in my opinion and Manning could also have that money to re-invest in the team.

“It would be a massive blow for Bristol City, as I said, he’s made the left-back berth his own. He’s played every game this season and he’s been outstanding.
