Andy Robertson flooded by Liverpool emotion as injury comeback greeted with moment he'll remember forever

Andy Robertson finally made his return from injury for Liverpool - and insisted the Anfield reception made the long hard days in rehab worthwhile.

The Scotland skipper was given a standing ovation as he came off the bench in the second half of the Reds’ 5-2 FA Cup victory over Norwich for his first action in more than three-and-a-half months. Robertson underwent surgery on a shoulder injury sustained in Scotland’s 2-0 Euro qualifying defeat in Spain on October 12. But his return to action will be a huge boost to Steve Clarke and the Tartan Army with preparations for the summer’s Euros in Germany stepping up in March with a friendly double header against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

And after playing his part in the demolition of the Canaries he said: “It was amazing, that’s the feeling I have been waiting for. The tough days in the gym away from the lads - that’s what I’ve tried to keep in my mind. The reception I got will stay with me for a long time.

“I can’t thank the crowd enough for that. That’s what got me through the tough days. There’s been a lot of them over the last four months. I’m just delighted to be back on the pitch now.”

Robertson returned to the Liverpool matchday squad for last Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi final second leg draw with Fulham. But he got his first top team minutes since being crocked yesterday, just days after Jurgen Klopp revealed he would be bringing his nine-year spell in charge at Anfield to an end at the end of the season.
