Calum Elliot answers Bonnyrigg Rose SOS call as former Hearts star lands first SPFL manager gig

Bonnyrig Rose have appointed Calum Elliot as their new manager as he joins from Lowland League side Cowdenbeath.

The former Hearts striker joins just a day after the sacking of Robbie Horn, who oversaw a nine game winless run and had the Rosey Posey sitting two points from the relegation play-offs. They currently sit eighth in League Two, above Stranraer, but only by goal difference and they play them next. They have won just once in 2024 and just suffered a devastating defeat to bottom side, Clyde who are improving and gaining ground on those above them. It's a nervy time for the fans as they are getting closer to the drop.

Elliot has a huge job on his hands if he is to turn this side's fortunes around. He was at Cowdenbeath and had them sitting 11th in the Lowland League which isn't spectacular but isn't bad by any means. Despite being just 36 he has extensive experience in management. He started in 2015 with Edinburgh United and has been at five clubs up until Cowdenbeath.

This is by far his biggest challenge but it's clear Bonyrigg wanted him for the job. In a club statement they said: "Bonnyrigg Rose give a warm welcome to Calum Elliot who has joined the club as the first team manager. We thank Cowdenbeath FC for their collaboration and support in enabling this appointment to take place.

"We can also confirm that team coach, Darren Smith, has left the club. We thank Darren for his service and dedication to the club and wish him all the very best for the future."

Cowdenbeath also released a statement that said: "On Saturday evening Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic intimated to Cowdenbeath FC that they would like to speak to our manager Calum Elliot in respect of potentially taking on the role of manager at New Dundas Park.
