Liel Abada crowned king of Charlotte as former Celtic star's first MLS goal sparks stunned reaction

There's a new king in town as far as Charlotte FC are concerned after Liel Abada was coronated following his first goal in the States.

The winger joined from Celtic in a £10m deal last month and was talked up as a box office addition with the North Carolina outfit splashing out to make him one of their Designated Players. He's been introduced gradually, coming off the bench against Cincinatti before playing an hour against New England Revolution last week.

But he formally announced his arrival to his MLS legions on Saturday night as he raced away to score his first goal. There was typical American fanfare with massive pyrotechnics behind the goal as they sealed a 3-2 win and made it 13 games unbeaten at home. And after the game it was Abada in the middle of the celebrations.

Charlotte, nicknamed 'The Crown', treat their Man of the Match at home games with pomp and ceremony and it was Abada who took the plaudits this time. Surrounded by his teammates, he sat down on a throne and was crowned the King. In a heartwarming clip shared on Charlotte's socials, you can see assistant manager Pa-Modou Kah's blown-away reaction to Abada's performance .
