Callum McGregor tells Celtic vs Rangers rookies there's no preparing for derby that 'takes you to a different place'

Callum McGregor has told Celtic's derby newcomers there's no preparing for a 90 minutes that "takes you to a different place"

But the Parkhead skipper says the old heads among Ange Postecoglou 's squad will be there to guide them through a hugely important meeting with Rangers on Saturday. The Glasgow rivals will collide for the first time this season with reigning champions Celtic aiming to move five points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

But Rangers can take pole position with a victory of their own, teeing up what's certain to be a blockbuster encounter in the city's east end. McGregor is now a veteran of such occasions and admits the only way to truly get to grips with it is through experience - and he's confident Postecoglou's raft of summer signings will be well equipped to do just that. He told Sky Sports: ""It's a new season, we've got some new players in and the squad's even stronger, we're 12 months further on from where we were last season, so we just keep progressing and that's the aim for us.

"The lads will be talking about the game, the atmosphere around it and everything else. Until you cross the white line and go onto the pitch, you can't really prepare. In that sense, it takes you to a difference place as a player.

"You've got to be ready, you've got to be mentally strong and attack the game. There's quite a lot of boys in there now that have had a taste of that, so the new lads can draw on the experience of the older lads. We're in a good place and, like I said, we want to attack the game."
