Ross McCrorie has 'every attribute wanted' for Scotland as Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin offers call up advice

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has tipped young star Ross McCrorie with a call-up to Scotland's national team after claiming that the prodigy has 'every wanted attribute' to make his mark under Steve Clarke.

McCrorie worked his way through the Rangers youth system before being loaned out to Aberdeen in the COVID-19 stricken season of 2020/21. Having impressed thoroughly at Pittodrie, his move was made permanent with Scott Wright moving in the opposite direction.

The midfielder has since gone from strength to strength in the Granite City, making 39 appearances last season alongside being an ever-present in the current campaign as he makes his mark on the supporters and Goodwin himself. And despite not making the current crop of players called up to the Scotland squad for the fixtures against Ukraine and Ireland, Goodwin believes that Tartan Army boss Clarke should consider him as an option to learn from stars such as John McGinn, Callum McGregor and Scott McTominay.

"If Steve Clarke is looking for an energetic central midfielder, he wouldn’t have to look much further than Ross McCrorie," Goodwin claimed.

"It is a very difficult position at the moment in the Scotland national team for a young lad to force his way in. There are some very good players in that particular position at the moment – John McGinn, Callum McGregor and Scott McTominay just to name a few.

“However, Ross is a confident lad with great self-belief. He believes that he should be at some point in that fold, and I certainly do as well. I think he has all the attributes of what you would want in a central midfielder. He has bags of energy, is very good on the ball and is adding goals to his game now."
