Scotland team predicted for Ukraine clash as Andy Robertson absence sparks defensive reshuffle

Scotland are back in action as Steve Clarke 's team look to bounce back from an indifferent summer with a winning finish to their Nations League campaign.

Two clashes with Ukraine sandwich a heavily-anticipated clash with Ireland at Hampden and the Scots will need at least two wins from those three games to stand any chance of winning the group and opening that back door into Euro 2024. And while the team often picks itself for the most part these days, there are a few major calls that need to be made ahead of the visit of Ukraine this evening.

Andy Robertson 's absence is a hammer-blow and it remains to be seen if Clarke will move Kieran Tierney out to left wing-back to cover for his captain. But Greg Taylor's impressive form for Celtic might tempt him to keep Tierney in his familiar position on the left of the back three.

On the other side, Nathan Patterson looks a stick-on to start after finally catching fire for Everton. But Aaron Hickey seems to be Brentford's first-choice right-back these days so Patterson will need to be on his toes.

In midfield, Billy Gilmour has finally been released from his purgatory at Chelsea but two postponements mean he's yet to get the chance to impress for his new team Brighton. Nonetheless, he can be expected to slot in beside Callum McGregor with John McGinn deployed in a more attacking role.

Up front, Che Adams is likely to start but will he be joined by Lyndon Dykes in a front two or flanked by the likes of Ryan Christie or Stuart Armstrong?
