Callum McGregor tells Celtic transfer recruits 'you’re under pressure' after Kilmarnock defeat as internal talks planned

Callum McGregor has warned Celtic’s summer signings there’s no time for a settling in period at Parkhead.

The Viaplay Cup holders lost their grasp on a trophy they’ve lifted six times in the last seven seasons as they crashed out at Kilmarnock on Sunday. With key men Cameron Carter-Vickets and Reo Hatate injured, Brendan Rodgers named new recruits Gustaf Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki and Odin Holm in his starting line-up. But the trio couldn’t alter the outcome of deflating 1-0 defeat that means Celtic’s Treble hopes for the season are over before August is even out.

Rodgers also threw on new recruit Hyunjun Yang as his side chased a game, with the former Gangwon ace showing a few bright moments but ultimately no end product as Killie held on. Now captain McGregor has told his new team-mates they’ll need to get up to speed and quick. He said: “We have some injuries and some big players have left. But that’s part and parcel of football and you have to recycle and find a new team.

“We now have to do that as quickly as possible. We talk about trying to settle people in but at Celtic you don’t get that opportunity. You go to Kilmarnock and lose and all of a sudden you’re under pressure.

“So we have to fix that internally, that’s down to the players, the manager and the staff. This is a massive reminder that you don’t have any right to just turn up and win any football match.

“So we have to learn from this and it has to spark us into life. It’s a reminder for the group, for everyone really, that if you’re not at it you don’t have any right to turn up and win any game of football.
