Callum McGregor loving Celtic siege mentality that cemented Rangers win and roars 'that's why we're champions'

Callum McGregor reckons Celtic showed why they are champions as they survived the siege against Rangers.

And the elated skipper told Kyogo Furuhashi he’s ‘the best striker he’s ever seen’ after his wondrous winner sealed their statement triumph. McGregor was beaming after a magnificent display helped his team to silence the Ibrox crowd.

McGregor was back to his brilliant best and imperious in the middle of the park as he controlled the opening period. As Rangers attempted to stage a second-half comeback, the captain cajoled and organised to ensure his side saw it through. McGregor and his colleagues had to do it without a single supporter inside the stadium and that just added to his sense of pride. He said: “It probably makes it even sweeter. It’s a siege mentality where it is everyone in the stadium against you out there. We showed a big personality and good quality in the game. I think we showed a bit of everything. You show why you are champions.

“When the going gets tough and the chips are down, there’s no better thing to come out and perform and make a statement. It was massive. Huge credit to the players to play the way we did, especially in the first 35 minutes. It was outstanding.

“We silenced the crowd and started to get them frustrated. We started to pick our way through the game and we thoroughly deserved the goal.

“In the second half, you know you will be under pressure and it is all hands to the pump. Everybody to a man ran themselves into the ground in terms of duels, tackles, and blocks and Joe Hart made some great saves.

“It is a brilliant moment for us as a group. We are a relatively young group so to come here and win and under the circumstances we did is something the boys should feel very good about
