Callum McGregor final Celtic injury return hurdle set by Brendan Rodgers with captain ON for Rangers showdown

Celtic captain Callum McGregor is set to return from injury in two weeks, according to Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops welcome St Johnstone to Celtic Park on Saturday with the chance to move top of the Scottish Premiership with Rangers not in action until Sunday - and are set to welcome back Reo Hatate for the clash against Craig Levein's relegation-threatened side. And while McGregor will remain sidelined with an achilles problem for the clash the Celtic boss expect his star man to be back following the international break.

This would see the skipper back in time for the clashes with Livingston before the crucial showdown with Philippe Clement's men to kick off April. Rodgers said: "At the beginning of the international break I expected him to be back after the international break. That is when it will be.

"He’s feeling good but he needs to get some clearnance before getting over this next 10 days. We’ll assess it for the Livingston game when we get back."

However, it wasn't all good news for Celtic. Liam Scales looks set to miss the clash with Rodgers adding: "Liam Scales will miss the game we think.

"He has picked up a knock in training. He has been so robust and everything about him has been great since he came into the team, so sadly he will miss this game."
