Callum McGregor Celtic injury panic escalates as Brendan Rodgers lays out key timeline after training absence

Celtic captain Callum McGregor is a doubt for the showdown for the clash with Hearts as Brendan Rodgers revealed the extend of his injury.

The skipper lead the notable absentees from training at Lennoxtown - just days after he was replaced by Daniel Kelly at half-time during the 7-1 victory over Dundee. Brendan Rodgers conceded that the captain was a doubt for the crucial Scottish Premiership showdown at Tynecastle after being replaced at the break for the teenager - as he stated his achilles knock would be assessed within the next 24 hours.

It comes after McGregor was deployed in a new role in the victories over Motherwell and Dundee with Tomoki Iwata coming into the defensive midfield role. Speaking ahead of the trip to Gorgie, the Celtic boss said: "Callum came off at half-time during the week, he felt his achilles a little bit and his calf...we just have to assess that and see where he is at over the next 24 hours."
