Cadwell BSB: Home round ‘not gone my way’ - Hickman

FHO BMW’s Peter Hickman didn’t have the home BSB round he was anticipating after struggling to a high of sixth at Cadwell Park.

While taking Bennetts British Superbike points across all three of the bank holiday races at his local circuit, his and the team’s home knowledge had hoped for more.

Claiming fifth in the returning Superpole on Sunday, Hickman launched into the pack for all three battles claiming two sixth places and a seventh as round seven concluded.

“My home round here at Cadwell has not gone my way to say the least,” Hickman admitted on Monday night. “On Saturday I did an alright first free practice and then in second free practice I couldn’t go any faster at all and ended up in 13th which is not ideal, but it did give us a little extra time because I then had to go into Q1.

“We had Superpole which was great and I managed my fastest ever lap around here. I was happy with that, fifth on the grid which sort of salvaged the weekend a little bit.

“But when it came to the race I really struggled off the start, I don’t know why, it didn’t really go my way at all in the opening laps. We did make some changes and by the end of the weekend we were actually really fast – in the last race I probably had the pace for a podium but I was just too far back.

“It just wasn’t our weekend, I can’t really put my finger on what exactly it was but the team did a fantastic job as normal, I can’t thank them enough - we’ll come back at Snetterton and have another go.”
