Cadwell BSB: Ray retakes lead as rival Yamahas struggle

Bradley Ray says his Rich Energy OMG team ‘made the difference’ during round seven of the 2022 British Superbike Championship after he emerged as the only competitive Yamaha at Cadwell Park.

Ray ended the weekend as the only R1 rider to reach the podium following a rare lull in form for the otherwise dominant OMG Racing and factory McAMS Yamaha contingent.

After taking a commanding lights-to-flag victory in race one on Sunday, though Ray had to settle for second best to BMW’s Danny Buchan in races two and three, his brace of podiums have seen him leapfrog Jason O’Halloran at the head of the standings.

Though such a status remains somewhat arbitrary until the Showdown - for which Ray has already booked his place - begins, the added podium credits mean he is provisionally much closer to O’Halloran now.

As it stands, he is just two credits shy of the Australian with one round to go at Snetterton before the Showdown begins.

“It has been pretty ideal,” Ray acknowledged. “We got the race win and walk away with two second places. It would have been nice to take it to Danny, but fair play he had unbelievable pace in the two races.

“It has been a hard track, no other Yamaha riders have been on the podium all weekend, so I am super happy for the team and myself. The team has made the difference this weekend.

“It is nice to close the gap on Jason in terms of podium credits and to be leading the championship again, I am looking forward to getting to Snetterton with the package we have got, we should be fighting for race wins there.”
