Burnley's game at Burton off and won't be replaced leaving Clarets with just one public friendly

Burnley’s pre season trip to Burton has been called off at the Clarets’ request.

The game was scheduled to take place on Saturday week as part of a double header with a behind closed doors fixture against Wolves preceding it. And while that game remains, the Pirelli Stadium visit is off and won’t be replaced.

It means the Clarets will play just one friendly in front of fans ahead of their season opener against Huddersfield Town on July 29. That comes at Shrewsbury on Friday, July 15.

Vincent Kompany’s side begin their summer schedule with a home game against Rochdale tomorrow at Gawthorpe. The match is a 1pm kick off and is being played behind closed doors.

The games with Wolves and Shrewsbury follow before the Clarets head to Portugal for a week long training camp ahead of the Championship season beginning next month.

A Burnley statement on the cancellation of the Burton friendly read: “Burnley Football Club can confirm that due to a number of reasons beyond our control, the Clarets' pre-season friendly at Burton Albion next week has been cancelled.

“Vincent Kompany's side were scheduled to play at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday 9th July. The Clarets begin their pre-season programme on Friday afternoon against Rochdale in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the training ground, before taking on Wolves and Shrewsbury Town.”
