Vincent Kompany sends Burnley transfer warning ahead of Huddersfield Town clash

Vincent Kompany has called for Burnley to add to their squad for the Championship ahead of the season opener against Huddersfield Town. The Clarets will travel to the John Smiths' Stadium on July 29, for the opening game of the season.

It's been a summer of transition for both sides, with Town and the Clarets appointing new managers. Danny Schofield will get his first taste of management as the Terriers host one of the favourites for the title, following Carlos Corberan's departure.

Town were one of the surprise packages last season going all the way to the play-off final, only to be beaten by Nottingham Forest. As if that wasn't bad enough, Harry Toffolo and Lewis O'Brien are both in talks to join the Premier League side.

They'll both need replacing if Schofield is hoping to replicate last season's heroics and avoid a season like Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, who went from the play-offs to League One inside 12 months. Town have been active themselves in the transfer market bringing in five new faces.

Burnley have brought in seven new players following their relegation but Kompany wants to see further additions before taking on the Terriers. “It’s been [a] really long [transfer window], yeah!” said Kompany, via Burnley Express. “But I’ve gone in eyes wide open, so there’s no complaints from my side, no surprises either.

“We’ve brought in seven players, we have to keep bringing in players, not because we’re not happy with the players that are here now, just because we have to increase the body count. That’s going to carry on, the quicker the better, because unfortunately we have eight games in August and have to deal with that, and at the same time, if you get it wrong, you have to deal with it for many years.”
