Maxwel Cornet transfer latest as star travels to Portugal with Burnley amid new Everton bid talk

Maxwel Cornet has travelled to Portugal with Burnley for the club's summer training camp amid speculation linking him with a move to Everton.

The Toffees are keen on the Ivory Coast international and other clubs are also interested in signing the 25-year-old. Cornet has a minimum fee release clause of £17.5million which is active following relegation.

Reports suggest Everton are looking to find a structured compromise having seen a loan deal rebuffed by the Clarets and Frank Lampard's side could re-visit a deal this week as they seek a replacement for Richarlison. Cornet missed Burnley's friendly win over Shrewsbury Town on Friday night, but was present at Gawthorpe in the morning as he trained with the players carrying knocks.

The forward is open to a move having had a season in the Premier League but has remained professional during the speculation, returning to train with the Clarets and causing no issues internally. Burnley boss Vincent Kompany accepted after the win at Shrewsbury that the likelihood is that Cornet will move on with Burnley looking at Coventry City's Callum O'Hare as a replacement.

Speaking in Shropshire about Cornet, who has been given time to assess his options and talk to his family about what comes next, Kompany said: "I don't know close it is, it is no secret there is a couple of clubs in for him and a couple of clubs have made good offers. We have to prepare probably for a period after him and that is what we are doing. I am not saying Maxwel has gone, he has offers."

Cornet arrived at Turf Moor a year ago from Lyon in a deal worth around £13million and still has four years left on his Clarets contract. He scored nine goals last season and was instrumental in the first half of the campaign
