Ian Maatsen Coventry comment will delight Burnley fans amid Callum O'Hare transfer friction

Ian Maatsen may not have played a game for Burnley but he's already struck a chord with supporters in the Clarets vs Coventry debate.

Something of a bizarre social media rivalry is forming between Burnley and Coventry fans over the Clarets' pursuit of Callum O'Hare. Perhaps the kind you only get on Twitter.

Vincent Kompany's comments on the player after the friendly win over Shrewsbury Town added to the fire with Sky Blues counterpart Mark Robins hitting back. The 20-year-old, who has moved to Turf Moor on a season long loan from Chelsea, spoke for the first time as a Clarets player and why he opted to move to East Lancashire. “My first loan was with Charlton, and then with Coventry, so now I’m stepping up to a bigger club and in a big league, so it will be more interesting," he said. “There are more games in the Championship (than other leagues) but that’s what you play football for – big games, big crowds, and less training with more games.

“That’s why it’s important for me to get fit, stay fit, and continue playing games at a high level. I’m excited to come here and play for Burnley. It’s a big club and a new challenge which I’m ready for. It’s a different town, but a new challenge. I look forward to meeting new people and this season will be good for me.”

As has been the case with all of Burnley's seven
