Burnley lining up bid for 15-cap international

Championship outfit Burnley are preparing an offer for Derby County midfielder Jason Knight, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Clarets were first interested in a move for the Republic of Ireland international back in January when the Rams were in administration, with Leeds United also thought to have been considering a move.

He was available for around £8m at that point with the East Midlands outfit desperate to keep hold of one of their most valuable assets despite their financial situation at that point and in the end, a move to Turf Moor failed to materialise.

They may not have the same ability to spend as they did six months ago with the Clarets since being relegated to the second tier since then – but they have sustained their interest in his services according to this morning’s report from Football Insider.

Although Derby have now exited administration, giving them a reasonable amount of power at the negotiating table, Knight may be keen to secure a move away from Pride Park following their relegation to League One.

His contract is set to expire in 12 months though and with the Rams needing to rebuild this summer, funds generated from the 21-year-old’s potential sale could potentially be beneficial.

The Verdict:

This would be another good signing for the Clarets – because even though Derby were fighting against the odds to stay up last season – they still stuck to an attractive style of play and Knight was a key part of that with his technical ability.

Able to play both out wide and in the middle of the park, he would be a versatile option for Vincent Kompany and at 21, he will only improve further.
