Bruno Fernandes makes Champions League admission after Manchester United win vs Aston Villa

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes believes the Reds "deserve" to be playing in the Champions League next season after their win over Aston Villa.

The Portuguese ace scored the only goal of the game as Erik ten Hag's side secured a 1-0 win against Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. United remain on course to finish inside the top four in the Premier League this season, with the Reds currently two points behind third-placed Newcastle with a game in hand.

Fernandes - who has now made 52 appearances in all competitions this term - registered his 11th goal of the campaign against Unai Emery's side. While the 28-year-old insists the work is not done yet, he believes the Reds are deserving of being in the Champions League.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, he said: "It's still some work to do. Obviously we are in a great position. We are in the top four and we have to be there. We have to maintain our position and keep winning games to be in the Champions League next season because this is what this club deserves.

"These players deserve to play in this kind of competition, playing against the best teams in the world, and we will give everything to be in the top four. Our aim is always to win trophies and luckily this year although our aim is to win the Premier League, that is not there anymore, but we have to aim for the top four and for the FA Cup final."

United have six games remaining in the Premier League, as well as an FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City on June 3.
