Broxburn Athletic striker confident club can thrive in Scottish Cup underdog role

Broxburn Athletic striker Errol Douglas is confident they can thrive in an unfamiliar role of underdogs as they look to produce more Scottish Cup magic.

The Brox take on Highland League title hopefuls Buckie Thistle at Albyn Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off) with a place in the Scottish Cup fourth round up for grabs.

A victory would see the sixth-tier outfit remarkably reach that stage for the second time in just four years, having exited at that stage in the 2019/20 edition at the hands of Premiership side St Mirren.

Athletic head into the clash full of confidence having lost just once in all competitions this campaign and they’ll be hoping to make it a Highland hat-trick having already got the better of Nairn County and Deveronvale in previous rounds.

Douglas, however, concedes that Buckie are likely to be a step above both those sides but he’s backed his team-mates to progress if they turn up for the big occasion.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “We’re the in-form team in the East of Scotland and we can really take that confidence out onto the pitch on Saturday.

“It’s been a great team effort this season from the entire squad because there has been a fair few guys, including myself, having to miss time through injuries but every single player has stepped up and produced when they’ve been asked.

“We’re confident of going out there and producing a performance that can get us the win. I don’t think there’s really any pressure on us to be honest.

“I do think the standard will be higher than previous Highland teams we’ve faced because Buckie are right up there and have only lost one league game this season.
