Kenny Dalglish claims brutal Rangers message Clement sent means Cantwell and other stars are on the brink

Kenny Dalglish believes Philippe Clement was telling his Rangers squad their Ibrox futures are at risk when he delivered his brutal surgery in midweek.

Todd Cantwell emerged as a key man under Michael Beale last season but the new man in charge hooked him after 35 minutes of the lacklustre 1-1 Europa League draw with Aris Limassol. It's sparked debate on where the former Norwich man stands in terms of his career in Govan but Scotland legend Dalglish believes he is not the only one fighting after a sluggish campaign so far.

Writing in the Sunday Post, Dalglish believes that with that sub, Clement sent a stark message that plenty in the dressing room are fighting for the right to stay at Rangers. He explained: "Across the city, Rangers also had a disappointing result in midweek. They could only draw 1-1 at home to Aris in the Europa League. On the back of losing 2-1 to them in Cyprus, it was another unacceptable result. Gers should have won that game and secured their place in the next stage. Now, they are going to Real Betis to possibly need to win in Seville.

"The Rangers supporters are also unhappy. They booed the team off again on Thursday night. That's a number of times that has happened this season. Philippe took off Todd Cantwell in the first half. He wasn't following tactical instructions.

"Several Gers players were under-performing and the manager could have taken any one of five or six off at that time. This is a massive five weeks for Rangers and they can't afford to mess it up, between European qualification and the League Cup final.
